Yuji Naka, long time no see.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure this one came out of left field for all of us. It seems Yuji Naka has joined up with Square Enix to work on a game. There’s no actual news as to what that game is, but it’ll either be really interesting, or really weird. Not sure which.
Just a quick note to let you know, I joined SQUARE ENIX in January.
I’m joining game development as before, and strive to develop games at SQUARE ENIX.
I aim to develop an enjoyable game, please look forward to it.— Yuji Naka / 中 裕司 (@nakayuji) January 22, 2018
The odd part about it all is that, after leaving Sega, Naka founded his own studio, Prope. Aside from some Digimon games and a few smaller things, their most notable solo venture was the tragically unappreciated Rodea the Sky Soldier for Wii and Wii U (which they’d be quick to tell you was best on the Wii, as it was made for that platform). As to what exactly this move means for Prope, though, is anyone’s guess.
