Tenet is now in rarefied air along with Shrek.
Last year, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet was released, with Nolan stating about his film, “This is a film whose image and sound really needs to be enjoyed in your theaters on the big screen”. Needless to say, I don’t think many people saw it in theaters for obvious reasons.
Enter YouTuber Bob Wulff of WULFF DEN, who managed through some sort of technological necromancy to stuff the entire 2 ½ hour film onto 5 Game Boy Advance Video cartridges, complete with custom labels, seemingly out of spite for the director’s comment above. He states that he did it in 30 minute chunks because that was the maximum playtime to allow a reasonably watchable experience.
That said, “watchable” is relative when it comes to GBA Video cartridges. It looks crunchy as hell despite Wulff’s best efforts, running at a crisp 192×128 resolution at 8 KB/s bitrate. Naturally, the video runs at a pleasant, watchable 6fps, more than high enough for the liking of any fighting game player. The sound is, however, not really much of a downgrade, as most viewers found Tenet hard to hear anyway, because proper sound mixing is a lost art (see: everything the BBC produces).
Regardless, it’s a pretty nifty project for science’s sake. That said, Wulff’s right when he states that it’s probably the worst way to watch this movie (or anything, really).

[…] I digress. In addition to ZS’sJL:JiG, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is coming to Game Boy Advance HBO Max. Nolan was, rather famously, not pleased with the decision made by Warner Bros. last year […]
