YouTube Faces Partial, Intermittent Outages For Some Users Today

YouTube

If you don’t really log in for anything, you probably didn’t notice.

If you tried to log in to YouTube today, only to get told something like your internet connection is down, well, you’re not alone. At about 3:20pm ET on April 12, reports started to roll in about the issues over on DownDetector. And, no, it’s not related to region; it’s an issue across the globe.

That said, it’s also a highly specific thing, based on the device you’re trying to use the service on. If you’re using a browser on a computer, you probably won’t find much amiss as far as basic functionality is concerned. Though there are reports of the sidebar not functioning properly, video playback seems to be fine.

It’s when you start getting into smart devices that things begin to go out of whack. Smart TV’s in particular seem to have the worst of it, with a number of issues. The most prominent seems to be that attempts to log in get repelled with a report of “no internet connection”. And these issues affect all versions of the app, across smart TV’s, Roku, and game consoles like the Nintendo Switch.

As of right now, Google has a support thread going for the affected.

Here’s what you might be experiencing:

– Unable to sign-in or switch accounts

– Unable to cast to your TV or use the app on a gaming console

– Left-hand Navigation Menus and Setting menus are not appearing / not loading

– Unable to access account drop-down menu (by clicking on your channel icon)

– ‘No internet connection’ error message when watching videos

– Difficulty with other YouTube Studio features

They also acknowledged the issues via Twitter:
