YouTube Cancels 2 Of Their Originals; Plans To Keep Making Premium Content

Relax, neither of them were Cobra Kai.

According to a report by Bloomberg, YouTube has cancelled two of it’s original shows. Sci-Fi show Origin and a comedy called Overthinking with Kat & June have been confirmed to be cancelled by YouTube through the report. Initially, Bloomberg also alleged that YouTube was no longer taking pitches for premium content, but Google has since denied that. They have announcements for new content planned sometime in the coming weeks.

As for why these two? Well, if could be a matter of return of investment for them. Origin, specifically, fits the bill; it certainly had an effects budget going that couldn’t have been inconsiderate. As for Overthinking with Kat & June, though, who’s to say?

It is possible that neither show fit into YouTube’s future planned business model for such content, though. Since all of YouTube’s premium content will become free to watch and supported by ads this year, it’s a possibility. Especially if neither show drew many viewers; and I’m sure they were collecting the metrics necessary to decide that.

And before you ask again, yes, Cobra Kai is safe. As a matter of fact, it’s more so than anything else. It was, reportedly, greenlit for a third season.
