Internet pornography website YouPorn (no I’m not hot-linking it) has gone through with its long standing plan to sponsor and fund a profession eSports team. Going by the family friendly name Team YP, the team is based out of Spain and is made up of five members (pun not intended): Ragabash, LoLQoP, SolmyR, Lawliet_91 and Mengue.
The team will be attending the Gamergy Tournament in Madrid this week to make their first official competitive appearance. YouPorn vice president Brad Burns had the following to say about the team an his vision for the future.
We’re so psyched to finally make our official entry into gaming and eSports. This partnership has been a long time coming, and I believe that with our backing, along with the expertise that each member of Team YP brings to the table on the virtual battlefield, we can succeed in tearing through the competition at this year’s Gamergy event.
ESports competitions are on the rise and there is a lot of money to be made in the activity for both players and sponsers. Millions watched live and online as teams competed for huge prizes and fame within the community this year at hundreds of events around the globe. While YouPorn seems like a strange partner, you can expect a lot more companies of all kinds jump onboard to sponsor some sort of eSports team in the years to come.
