You Can Now Play The Original Doom On Twitter

Doom

Apropos, as I tend to call Twitter a Hellsite.

I mean, it’s not much of a surprise. It runs on everything. I know people have managed to get it running on a goddamn graphing calculator. But you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that you can now play classic Doom on Twitter.

Tweet2Doom, which started up earlier this year in September, lets you play Doom through a string of commands directed at the Twitter Bot. The bot then generates a video showing you what you just did in game (maximum is 350 frames), and you can continue from there. They include all of the instructions to play in the pinned tweet:

It sorta works out like some kind of crazy turn-based version of Doom. Which also exists, or rather used to exist. Granted, it’s probably not the most elegant means of playing the game. And it pretty much by definition requires an intensive knowledge of the game’s levels to begin with; you’re essentially tapping out instructions blind, then seeing what you did.

Then again, it’s also not surprising that someone beat E1M1 in two tweets, totaling 11 seconds of play and less than 500 frames.

What does following the account get you? well, much like the tweet above, it’ll get you highlights of different users play, notifications when someone earns an achievement, and videos of people screwing around trying to play Doom like this. Which, needless to say, is probably going to involve a lot of people running into walls and getting murdered by demons.

Truly, it will run on anything, and everything.
