You Can Now Play Diablo In Your Browser Window

Ahh, fresh meat!

The original Diablo is one of those games I have oddly fond memories of; namely, the PS1 version, which I played with a friend. Nonetheless, its gameplay formed a pillar for Blizzard at the time. Which I why it’s sad that, up until just recently, it was a massive pain in the ass to play the game on modern hardware. Now, with the work of either GOG or diligent modders, you really have your pick.

This case concerns the latter of those two, to some degree (and the mistake Sony made in leaving some data it shouldn’t have on the Japanese version of Diablo PS1). Thanks to Rivsoft, you can now play one of the biggest games of 1996 in your browser.

Granted, the version you can play on their site is the shareware version; it limits you to the first two ares of the dungeon and one of the three heroes. That said, if you actually own a legit copy of Diablo, you can unlock the full game by dragging and dropping a file (DIABDAT.MPQ) from it into the window.

I easily wasted a good half hour playing around in the game when I should’ve been writing this article. It’s easy to forget just how comfy an old game can make you feel. And that’s just the shareware version! So hop on and get clicking; Diablo isn’t going to kill himself for you.
