Xbox One Scorpio looking to outperform PS4 Neo, upgrade compatible

Xbox One Scorpio

Reports have come out that Microsoft is not working one new Xbox One (Xbox Two?), but that they have two in the pipeline. The first will be a smaller Xbox One while the other will be a major step for the manufacturer in Scorpio.

Scorpio is big as not only is it reported that the console upgrade will outperform the PS4 NEO, but that the unit can be upgraded every few years when needed, much like a normal PC. This means that instead of an entire new console Microsoft can just upgrade Scorpio.

Sources close to Polygon claim that Microsoft wants to avoid the PS4 vs Xbox One situation that plagued the company at launch. The Xbox One features lower framerates and seemed under powered when compared to the offerings from Sony.

In terms of specs, the team behind Scorpio are shooting for 6 teraflops of peak power. I know that doesn’t mean much to non-technical people, but just be aware that the PS4 NEO only has a reported 4.14 teraflops to work with.

That is a lot of power under the hood, and the upgrade nature of the PC… err, Xbox One Scorpio is really neat. The only concern we have is the cost of this new model. Microsoft hasn’t revealed any details, but it could very well retail for more than the PS4 NEO.

We expect some details to come out at E3 next month, but don’t expect to see the Scorpio hit the market until sometime next year.
