This is not a drill!
All that speculation as to what could be has actually paid off faster than previously thought. Because according to a Direct Feed Games report, Xbox Game pass is headed to Nintendo’s Switch.
And the service will revolve around Microsoft’s xCloud streaming technology. Which means you’ll have a system (with actual buttons!) that can play Xbox games anywhere there’s an internet connection. Granted, none of this has been announced officially, but it can’t be long considering the cat’s out of the bag now. Right?
But that’s not the only such rumor. Word is going around that Microsoft plans on publishing some of their smaller, indie studio titles to the Switch as well. Most prominently, Ori and the Blind Forest. But there’s scuttlebutt going around that other titles might also get ported, including Super Lucky’s Tale and, possibly, the excellent Cuphead.
Granted, there is a Microsoft game on the Switch already; Minecraft. Then again, that’s on pretty much every platform. The idea, apparently, is to port smaller indie games that run natively on the Switch, with the larger powerhouse titles relegated to the xCloud streaming service through Xbox Game Pass.
And it’s all far from out of the question. Nintendo has allowed streamed games onto the Switch before. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Resident Evil 7 in Japan are prominent examples of that.
As to when it’ll happen, though? That’s up to an official statement. But who knows what surprises await us at E3 this year?
