It is with great sadness that I, as a longtime wrestling fan, have to remark on the passing of another WWE Legend being taken from us far too early. Chyna (real name Joanie Laurer) was a staple of the famed Attitude Era of WWF (WWE) that saw her catapult to fame not only in the Women’s Division, but beyond.
As part of the legendary DX stable, Chyna was a powerful force in the company and was nearly pushed into winning the World Heavyweight at one point. While this never happened, she did win the Intercontinental Title, the only woman to ever do so. Her presence at the company helped to change how many viewed women’s wrestling, at a time when bikini models ruled the roost.
A post via her Facebook page reads,
“It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her”
Chyna was 45 years old.
