After the impressive show that was The Royal Rumble we are now off on the road to Wrestlemania 32. However, sad as it may be, we have to make a quick pit stop at Fastlane. I am not surprised that they kept the name, but I am surprised at how poorly this build up to the show has been.
Although this card has pretty noticeable results to fans, I am still going to give my input on how I think this Sunday is going to go down. With that said, let’s load up with rocket fuel and start on with the predictions.
**Pre Show**
Kalisto (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio:
Two-out-of-three falls match for the WWE United States Championship
We’re in the land of freaking Limbo when it comes to the title picture for the United States Championship. Alberto Del Rio (ADR) is now basicly midcarded from where he was at the start of his run. Moreover, Kalisto has been getting a push, but to nowhere in particular. I am not surewhat the benefits of putting title matches on the pre-show is besides showing that neither guy has anything to gain from the match. Luckily it will be a Two-out-of-three falls match, but after several matches in January, including the Royal Rumble, how can anyone invest in watching these two one more time? As for the winner of the match, it’s going to be Kalisto if WWE wants him to push him to a memorable WrestleMania moment.
Winner: Kalisto
Ryback, Big Show and Kane vs. The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman)
This company has done the impossible for me; it made me lose complete faith with two wrestlers: one is Dolph Ziggler (which you can read about if you scroll down below) and the second is Bray Wyatt with his band of goons. The hype train for the Wyatts has died, and WWE is seeing it and are finding a way in order bring back the hype for Wrestlemania. I am just not sure if many fans really care anymore. Especially, when you have the Wyatts going up against three other wrestlers no one cares about. Sure, Ryback might be someone serious, but WWE droped the ball with him after the “Feed Me More” movement in 2013. This match is going to be a squash match with the Wyatts winning it. Hopefully it is okay enough to restore some faith for fans out there.
Winner: The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman)
Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks vs. Naomi and Tamina
This match should have been on the Raw before Fastlane. I am pretty sure we would have preferred Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks giving us an amazing fifteen-minute match that’s so good, fans chant for more. This would in turn make Vince think about booking a triple threat match for the Women’s Title (still refuse to call it Diva’s title). Too much wishful thinking? A man can dream. As for the outcome of this match, I see tension being built between Becky and Sasha during the match; like who is the better performer. I see this leading to them losing the match and fighting each other in the ring, while referees try to break them apart.
Winner: Naomi and Tamina
Chris Jericho Vs. AJ Styles
The match was officially announced this week on Smackdown. but we all knew this match was going to happen after, the tension that has been building up since AJ’s debut. WWE has been playing it very safe with AJ, and I that has been the right move, with AJ having decent matches along with cutting safe promos while he adjusts to WWE. At Fastlane we are all expecting a good/great match, that brings the hype to the reality that AJ Styles is going to be at Wrestlemania, which I can’t wait for. Alternatively, they can drop the ball entirely with AJ as the company tends to do with crowd favorites. However, we should focus on this Sunday where he is up against Chris Jericho. Chris usually never disappoints when it comes to a match and is great at getting talent over. The mere fact that we have one of the biggest free-agents in 2000 going up against one of the biggest free-agent in 2015/16, since he left wrestling in Florida (TNA) is exciting. My hat is up in the air in the case of who wins, but I do see them setting something up for Mania with these two. On the other hand, just having a clean win at a PPV via a Styles Clash (fingers crossed) would do a lot to put AJ in a title hunt.
Winner: AJ Styles
Kevin Owens (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
WWE Intercontinental Championship
If anyone knows how to beat a horse to death it’s WWE and this match is one of them. It already feels like I’ve been watching Ziggler vs. Owens for years now. I don’t mind watching again, but they are really pushing it with how many times these guys can fight each other. If there is one thing I can see happening it’s that Owen or Ziggler pulls out a new move that will shock us all turning this into the match of the night. Whatever happens, Owens will of course win. I lost faith that WWE will ever let Ziggler make it back to the top again long ago. I do have to say that I would like to see Owens do that mid spin backflip that he does from the turnbuckle. I do not know the name of that move, but please Ownes, just make it happen.
Winner: Kevin Ownes
Charlotte (c) vs. Brie Bella For WWE Woman (Divas) Championship
This match is a prime example of how to book a match that no one cares about. The only reason Brie is even in this match is because Daniel Bryan, and her role during his retirement speech. It does not make any sense to have this happen right now, especially when they already created the long-term direction between Charlotte and Sasha Banks for WrestleMania. This Brie feud just comes off as filler because there is no way the champ is going to lose the belt, and gosh I freaking hate filler. The worst part is that is not even good filler as Charlotte has a hard time working with women who don’t have to the same schooling as the NXT Women, or else your Natalya who works well with everyone (WWE NXT Takeover, May 29, 2014 ). This match is going to bomb and it will be a bathroom break for fans. I am just hoping Ric Flair does something crazy that makes Charlotte win the match quickly. The only way it might be good is if they start building tension between Ric and Charlotte.
Winner: Charlotte
Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar
To determine the #1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 32
So many things wrong with this match. Here is a small list:
- WWE Never explained why Roman or Dean are in the match.
- It makes Roman Reigns the automatic Heel if he wins.
- The WWE Champion did not try and build this match.
- Dean Ambrose being the fall guy.. again.
This is some grade A crap of a match even though it could have been the match of the night. With an outcome so predictable it just does not have a chance to be that. No one on the card is benefiting from this match.; If they go with this route of Roman winning, no one will care, Dean’s image will get damaged, and Brock’s use would be a waste here. It will be Royal Rumble 2015 all over again. Now, if WWE wants to make this main event worth our time, I say make Ambrose win the match as he has been having an incredible year, and I am pretty sure I am not the only one that doesn’t mind seeing Dean going to the main event and beating on Triple H for the title. Now this would only work if Roman turns Heel which sounds impossible but it can work (think of The Rock). Dean has a chance of making this Mania memorable if he wins. I can just imagine the six week build up for Mania on Triple H and Dean.
Winner: Dean Ambrose is Heading To Wrestlemania!!
