WWE 2K Battlegrounds Is The WWE Game We’re Getting In 2020

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is an arcade-based wrestling/fighting game that is being shoved out the door in lieu of a proper WWE 2K21

The other day we wrote about WWE killing off the expected iteration of WWE 2K21. This only makes sense as WWE 2K20 was a bloody disaster the likes of which we’ve never seen in a sports title. It was so bad it impacted the WWE bottom line with how negatively it trended on Twitter and social media. And this after WWE 2K18 on the Nintendo Switch was actually unplayable! It has not been a good time for WWE games.

But with WWE 2K games being paused for at least a year it doesn’t mean we won’t be getting a WWE game on consoles in 2020. Enter WWE 2K Battlegrounds, a brand new WWE game that is being described as a “completely new WWE gaming experience.”

Check out the trailer shows that that’s complete bullshit. Wrestlefest in the arcades was, well, an arcade experience that was tons of fun, and lest we forget WWE All-Stars that this looks to emulate in a lot of ways. This isn’t something totally new, but it might be enough to get out the bad taste the last few WWE 2K iterations left in our mouths.

I know a lot of people who have been clamoring for something like this since All-Stars, and even well before that. These pick-up-and-play type of arcade experiences are usually a blast. That said, these sorts of affairs are complementary to a core WWE experience, something we aren’t getting.

Will you be picking this one up when it drops sometime this year?
