As of today, Microsoft has ended support for Windows 7. This means that the operating system is essentially dead as it will no longer receive software updates, security fixes, patches, or any sort of technical support. Windows 7 lasted a solid 10 years and after XP, it was my favorite OS for gaming.
While the OD is now dead and open for future attacks since there will no longer be any patches, millions of copies were sold and chances are good there are lots of people and businesses still using it. Most people aren’t running Windows 7 thanks to Microsoft moving people over to Windows 10 for free, but that offer expired ended in 2016.
A new copy of Windows 10 will run you around $140 for the entry-level version. At that rate, you might be better off just buying a new computer or laptop. That said, you can still keep using Windows 7 but you do so at your own risk. And it’s a big risk.
Word on the internet is that Microsoft is putting out a patch today before is ends support for Windows 7 that patches an “extraordinarily serious security vulnerability” that could affect users.
