Mashable has reported that Willem Dafoe (every awesome movie ever) has signed on to do some voice acting for the upcoming Death Note film. But he won’t just be voicing some rando, but instead taking on the role of Ryuk the Shinigami! Ryuk is the beast that creates the Death Note book and constantly follows around the lead character, Light Turner.
The film is based on the Japanese manga of the same name written by Tsugumi Ohba. The story follows a high school student that is the epitome of emo who finds this magic book that kills people. He just needs to write their name in it and they will end up dead. With this new power he begins to take lives of those he think deserve it.
Death Note will premiere globally on Netflix in 2017.
