Samsung is big in the world of Smart TVs, but you might want to read that fine print in your user manual. It has nothing to do with how the TV works, but with what the TV captures and sends off to third parties without your knowledge.
The Samsung Smarttv EULA includes the following:
“Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third-party through your use of Voice Recognition.”
The above statement refers to the voice recognition software that most of the new Samsung Smart TVs come equipped with. The TV takes what is spoken (regardless if it’s a command or just a regular conversation), transcribes it to text, and sends it off to third parties.
This would make sense from a marketing standpoint as you can feed ads to the TV depending on what words come up the most, but it also opens the distinct possibility that extremely private and sensitive information is being sold off to who knows who.
