Warner Bros. reports own site for copyright voiolation

In a case of not understanding how things on the internet work, Warner Bros. has asked Google to de-list its own websites from search results on the ground that they violate its copyrights. You read that right: Warner dinged itself for copyright violation.

Look, we love the people at Warner, but this clearly shows that there are people in charge that have no idea how things work, or at the very least shows that the automated system they have in place is broken. But on top to striking itself, the film studio also asked Google to remove legitimate sites that stream television show and films including ones owned by Amazon, Sky TV, and even IMDB.

It seems that one of the claims made by Warner Bros. was a take-down notice for the official websites of Batman: The Dark Knight and The Matrix. Strange as Warner is the one that built the sites, runs them, and hosts them on its own servers.

What’s really funny about all this is that this news comes from the Torrent Freak blog. Ernesto van der Sar, from Torrent Freak stated that,

“Warner is inadvertently trying to make it harder for the public to find links to legitimate content, which runs counter to its intentions.”

He continued by saying,

“Piracy monitoring firms often use automated systems to find and report copyright infringing websites.

“I’m fairly certain that this happened here as well, considering the obvious mistakes that were made.
