CinemaCon (yes, there is a con for everything) is going on as I write this, and with it comes some exciting news from Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara has confirmed that the movie studio is working with Ben Affleck on developing a solo film starring the caped crusader.
Not only that, but it is being reported that not only will Affleck with once again don the cape, but will also be sitting in the directors chair. This is the best possible news, and one hopes that his more educated and nuanced touch behind the camera can fix the 13 year-old school boy mentality that Zack Synder brought to Batman v. Superman.
Ben Affleck was a surprise to take over the Batman role early on. This wasn’t because he couldn’t handle the role, but because after the mess that was Daredevil, the actor swore off superhero roles. One thought that many tossed around was that he took on the character for Batman v Superman so that he could take a crack at his on solo film, as well as get funding for other projects through Warner Bros.
Whatever the reason may actually be, it doesn’t really matter. Whatever comes from this Batman solo move can’t be as bad as the characters we saw in Batman v. Superman. I for one am ready for some levity to return to the over dark world Warner Bros. are building for their cinematic universe.
