The Warcraft movie is still happening, and it has a cast now

We haven’t talked much about Warcraft around here, because, well, there hasn’t been much to say. Last I heard, Sam Raimi was at the helm, but apparently he’s been replaced by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), which has me officially interested. Anyway, yesterday at BlizzCon the cast was announced, and although plot details are being kept vague – obviously, it’s 2014 and everything has to be a secret now – it was confirmed that the cast will be split between the Alliance and the Horde. As far as “announcements” go, that’s like saying the cast of Star Wars will be split between Imperials and Rebels.

Alliance

Travis Fimmel (Vikings) as Anduin Lothar

Dominic Cooper (Need for Speed) as King Llane Wrynn

Ben Foster (Lone Survivor) as Medivh

Ben Schnetzer (The Book Thief) as Khadgar

Ruth Negga (World War Z)as Lady Taria

Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) as Garona

Horde

Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Durotan

Rob Kazinsky (Pacific Rim) as Orgrim

Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption) as Blackhand

Daniel Wu (The Man With the Iron Fists) as Gul’Dan

All told, a pretty solid cast. Anything involving Ben Foster and Clancy Brown gets the benefit of the doubt from me. Thanks to the Huffington Post for the heads up.
