Oh God, they’ve discovered MMO’s.

Yes, you read that right. Walmart is on Roblox, and they’ve got two places for you to visit; Walmart Land and Universe of Play. Both let users earn digital merch verch(?) and prizes, play games, and more.

Ah, but they didn’t stop there.

Moving on, this isn’t Walmart’s first virtual tech run; they recently implemented AI-powered virtual try-on technology. Of their Roblox spaces, Walmart’s U.S. chief marketing officer William White said:

”We’re showing up in a big way – creating community, content, entertainment and games through the launch of Walmart Land and Walmart’s Universe of Play,” said William White, chief marketing officer, Walmart U.S. “Roblox is one of the fastest growing and largest platforms in the metaverse, and we know our customers are spending loads of time there. So, we’re focusing on creating new and innovative experiences that excite them, something we’re already doing in the communities where they live, and now, the virtual worlds where they play.”

Currently, Walmart land features 4 areas that are left open with a “coming soon” sign. There’s more on the way then, with Walmart stating that the first of these “isles” as they’re calling them will launch in November, with another two coming in early 2023.

As for what features are currently in place, there’s the central hub, which features a store for players to redeem tokens for their “verch”; all things for their Roblox avatar. You get a free bucket hat in Walmart blue first visit. The central hub also features a blimp, which drops down prizes; there’s also a timer so you know when to show up. The central hub also features a monorail, which takes players on a tour of Walmart Land.

The “House of Style” is exactly what it says on the tin. Fashion competitions, a photobooth, and a cosmetics themed obstacle course, among other things.

There’s also “Electric Island”, which features a dance off competition, Netflix Trivia, which is hosted by Noah Schnapp of Stranger Things, “DJ Booth Remix” which lets you reenact that scene from Big based on its description, and “Electric Fest”. Electric Fest is special; it’s live performances featuring current artists. The first Electric Fest is in October; on the 7th, the first motion-capture concert will debut, featuring Madison Beer, Kane Brown and YUNGBLUD.

Universe of Play is aimed at the younger players. It features games and activities with some of the most popular toy brands such as PAW Patrol, L.O.L Surprise!, Magic Mixies, Jurassic World and Razor scooters.

Walmart’s presence on Roblox is live right now over on Roblox.com, and is available on literally all of the devices Roblox can be run on.
