WalkCar is the mini Segway you’ve always wanted

WalkCar

Japan is place full of all sort of crazy cool technology, far in advance of most of the rest of the world. One such new piece of tech that may very soon be hitting the Tokyo streets is the WalkCar. Funny name aside, the WalkCar is pretty much exactly what it seems; sort of.

Kuniako Saito and his team at Cocoa Motors have built what is essentially a Segway, but without all the bulk. I should also not that the WalkCar is already about a million times cooler than the Segway ever was.  This little lithium battery-powered contraption is about the size of a laptop that was crossed with a skateboard.

The WalkCar is small enough to fit easily in a backpack or side bag. While not for everyone, I can see something like this really taking off across college campuses. The WalkCar is made out of aluminum and clocks in between 4 to 6 pounds. The weight difference comes down to there being two version of the WalkCar with both an indoor and outdoor version.

The WalkCar can reach speeds of up to six miles an hour and you’ll be able to travel for up to seven miles on a single charge. Charging itself only takes about three hour from a fully dead battery. No word on a release date, but a Kickstarter for the WalkCar is coming soon with a unit running for around $800 bucks.
