Vixen Episode 2

This episode starts off right where the last left off; Not-Dad on the ground, armed muggers advancing on Mari. The mugger tells her again that he wants the necklace. This causes her to touch it. Which in turn causes it to glow, allowing her to channel Gorilla Grodd a gorilla and beat the ever loving shit out of them. Mari is clearly concerned for her Not-Dad.

Could it be... dull surprise?!

Luckily, Not-Dad (a.k.a. Chuck) is in fact okay. He implies that after what just happened, he could use something stronger than coffee. Mari goes upstairs to her old room after this and has a flashback in the middle of this flashback. Her foster Mom consoles her after she got bullied by some other girls at school. She gives Mari the necklace she had on her when she was placed with them, saying that the best one of Chuck’s friends could figure out was that it was an Anansi totem.

Thanks for the matryoshka flashback, memory inducing photo.

The next day (in the actual, “3 days ago” flashback) Mari goes to the local collegeversity to ask Dr. Macalester about the totem. All he really winds up telling her is that it supposedly allows the wearer to conjure up the strength and capabilities of any animal they channel. This is obviously stupid on his part, because as we’re shown after she leaves his office, he’s in cahoots with some shadowy villainess that wants the totem. And she was apparently not terribly discriminating when it came to hiring those muggers.

And Dr. Macalester? You didn't actually tell her anything about the totem, right?

Uhhhh...
“Uhhhh…”

I really need to be more thorough with my screening process.

Final Thoughts:

  • This episode leads me to believe that this was a 22 minute pilot split up into 4 and 1/2 minute chunks. Which makes rating it harder.
  • I’m guessing Not-Mom was named Patty, thanks to the credits.
  • You can actually watch this on the CW Seed site. The audio/video quality is just as crap!
