Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines was one of the first games to use the Source engine that would later power Half Life 2 and other incredible games. Bloodlines was impressive, but it was, well, a clunky RPG. A lot of this was because the team was using an unfinished Source engine and they had to fill in some gaps with their own code.
Still, the game was praised at the time for its impressive story, but knocked for those technical issues. But even in 2019 it is one of those games from the era that you can still go back and play, something that can’t be said for a lot of the fare that was released in 2004 and didn’t use the Source engine.
Now, only a scant sixteen-years later, we are getting proper sequel in Vampire: The Masquerades—Bloodlines 2. I’m sure most people would have been thrilled with a remake or re-mastering, but a proper follow-up should have fans chomping at the bit. This first-person RPG is set years after the events of the original, in a new city: Seattle, Washington.
Fans of the original can take solace in knowing that
Brian Mitsoda, designer and writer of the original games, is serving as the lead narrative designer for this sequel. Vampire: The Masquerade—Bloodlines 2 has a planned release for sometime in 2020.
