Gotta get them streambucks.
Everybody’s getting into the streaming game right now. So why should Valve be any different?
A scant few hours after Steam Database founder Pavel Djundik found out that Valve had registered a domain (steam.tv), they were streaming a DOTA 2 tournament. Sadly, the stream is no longer available, and the site is completely blank now.
(yes, it's real)

But, CNET was able to get in there while it was up, and according to them, the features were limited. You could literally only watch the tournament; you couldn’t do any streaming of your own. You could, however, sign in to your steam account. That would give you access to your friends list to invite them to watch, in addition to accessing group chats. The browser even had built-in voice chat.
In all likelihood, they were just giving the system a test. But it’s pretty clear they pan to take on Twitch like this. Hopefully, the official launch, whenever that is, will have a few more features going.
