Valve has recently announced that the launch of the much-awaited Steam Deck would be delayed until February 2022. Which is probably sad news for anyone expecting it for it’s original December 2021 release. But if you have to blame anything, you can blame the ongoing parts shortages, specifically superconductors, that have been hampering everything from computer parts to car production.
The launch of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months. We’re sorry about this—we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates.
Based on our updated build estimates, Steam Deck will start shipping to customers February 2022. This will be the new start date of the reservation queue—all reservation holders keep their place in line but dates will shift back accordingly. Reservation date estimates will be updated shortly after this announcement.
The good news is, if you’ve pre-ordered already, you keep your place in the reservation queue. Everyone’s just getting shoved back by two months. Valve is in the process of updating the shipping estimates as of this writing.
While certainly unpleasant, the delay isn’t much of a surprise if you’ve been paying attention to all of the parts shortages. Though at least you’ll have plenty of games to play on it when it finally launches.
