Valve Apologizes For Steam Summer Sale Confusion, Gives Away 5000 More Games

A winner (may be) you.

The Steam Summer Sale prompted it’s own, special mess this year. And Valve has decided to apologize for it, with a dedication to do better next time.

The confusing sale had users competing in teams, with members of the top 3 teams having a chance at getting the top game on their wishlist, free. Unfortunately, what this meant wasn’t explained, nor understood, terribly well. There was also the revelation that everyone cottoned on to the fact that sticking with 3 of the teams practically guaranteed you’d have a chance at a free game.

Well, Valve isn’t just dedicated to making things better next year. In their wrapup of the Steam Grand Prix, they decided a conciliatory bonus was in order as further apology for the mess. As such, they’re randomly selecting 5000 users that had participated in the event, who will get the top game on their wishlist.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Grand Prix. We realize that the race track had some unexpected turns – we tried to straighten them out when we could, and we’ll anticipate the curves better next time we invite you to the races.

As an extra gift for those that participated, we have randomly selected 5,000 users that contributed from any team in the Steam Grand Prix to receive the top game from their wishlist. Users that were randomly selected will receive their gift within 48 hours from the end of the Steam Grand Prix.

While the sale is over, the event isn’t totally closed. The Pit Stop, where you trade in event tokes for various extras, is still open. That said, it closes tomorrow, so if you’ve still got anything to trade in, now’s the time to do it.
