US Navy Claims It Was “Hacked” When Age Of Empires Streams Started Showing Up On USS Kidd’s Facebook Profile

Age of Empires

I guess its free advertising for AoE?

Last week saw the Facebook page for the USS Kidd suddenly taken over with streams of Age of Empires. An official spokesperson for the Navy claimed the page had been “hacked” in a statement to Task and Purpose.

“The official Facebook page for USS Kidd (DDG 100) was hacked,” Cmdr. Nicole Schwegman, a Navy spokesperson told Task & Purpose on Tuesday. “We are currently working with Facebook technical support to resolve the issue.”

The streams began appearing late on October 3rd, with the first being titled “Hahahahaha”. The second, “play game”, went up on the 4th. And so it continued that same day, with various names like “hi everyone,” “hi guys,”, and “ffffffffffff”, eventually ending on “POSC”.

Reality, however, is often disappointing. There was no battle of computer wits between some guy wearing a hoodie in a dark room and the perky goth and chad nerd opposing him. Rather, it was more like the social media manager for the page forgot to log out and then log back in to their own account before streaming a bunch of Age of Empires. Which is exactly what Navy confirmed to be the case later on.

Ah, well. As far as social media SNAFUs for the military are concerned, it’s pretty tame. At least, as opposed to the time Ft. Bragg became the horniest place on earth.
