UPDATE: How That Fake Nintendo NX Controller Was Created

Nintendo NX Fake

If something is too good to be true, it probably is. That turned out to be the case with those hi-res photos of the purported Nintendo NX controller that leaked last week.

While he didn’t cover the initial release of photos that looked like they were taken by a cell phone camera circa 2004, we did jump on the clear, crisp photos that came out a little while after.

There was no conformation that the thing was real –although we said it sure looked like it was– the sleuths of Reddit went to work playing Sherlock Holmes. Turns out that some things didn’t quite line up.

The controller is real, but it isn’t an official Nintendo prototype of any kind. Instead, the man behind the leak, Frank Sandqvistm said he created the unit based off of the original leaked photos.

So this could be considered a fake, of a fake, of a found patent. Double hoodwinked! With 3D printers all the rage we could be seeing better and better fakes from now on.

He released a video on how he created the unit, which is darn impressive for an internet hoax.
