Haha, I’m not paying for shitposts.
Twitter has recently announced the addition of a paid Super Follower feature, allowing users to charge for extra content.
The concept has been bandied around for a while, and has seemingly now come to fruition. Users can charge their followers a set fee to become Super Followers (the demonstration picture showed a price of $4.99, but it’s up to user discretion). Twitter says they see it as a way for content creators to get paid directly for what they do on Twitter. It’s safe to imagine Twitter is taking a cut of that, but how much is anyone’s guess.
Twitter also announced the creation of a feature title “Communities”, which mostly seems to be Twitter-brand Facebook groups. People can create and join groups based around interests, allowing them to see more tweets based on those topics. Say, I don’t know, cats: the internet darling.
There’s currently no timeline for these features. Their presentation simply listed them as “what’s next”.
