Twitch Suffers Massive Data Leak That Includes Everything

Twitch

And it’s supposedly just part one.

If you spend time online, It’s hard not to know of Twitch, even if you don’t use it. It’s the largest live streaming platform on the internet. And it just suffered a massive data leak, which includes, but is not limited to: streamer earnings, encrypted passwords, an unnamed and unreleased Steam competitor from Amazon Game Studios, and even the source code for the mobile, desktop, and game console versions of the client.

The leak first appeared as a torrent shared to 4Chan. And boy oh boy, did they sink their teeth into the streamer payment records going back to 2019, among other things.

Twitch

And all that is just part one.

Also among the leaked files in the 128 GB torrent were the site’s comment history going back to its beginnings, proprietary SDKs, files related to other properties owned by Twitch, and internal AWS services. There were even files related to a Steam competitor (do we really need more of these?!) by Amazon Game Studios that was never released, referred to as Vapor (lol).

And Twitch has confirmed that the leak is real.

As a general rule of thumb, regardless of if you’re a big time streamer or a small fry, it’s probably a good idea to do a few things. First and foremost, change your password. It’s also probably in your best interest to enable two-factor authentication posthaste.
