Twitch Overdubs Metallica’s BlizzCon Concert With Royalty Free Music To Avoid DMCA

So, Metallica put on a performance for BlizzCon 2021. And in a twist that absolutely no one could possibly have seen coming, Twitch actually muted the famously litigious band’s performance on the TwitchGaming channel, replacing it with royalty free music to avoid a DMCA request, which would probably have come from Metallica.

This isn’t exactly surprising, considering the mess DMCA has recently made of Twitch. Nor considering it’s Metallica.

I’m being honest when I say I wasn’t watching this presentation. When I first encountered clips on social media, I literally thought it was a shitpost making fun of how hard Metallica rides the DMCA. Turns out, no, it’s real.

Amazing. It’s like some sort of Spinal Tap gaffe.
