Very exciting news from Showtime – Twin Peaks is returning in 2016, with nine new episodes, all of which will be directed by David Lynch. Lynch and Peaks co-creator Mark Frost made the announcement in their typical fashion:
The new Twin Peaks will be set in the present day, and will aim to continue the mystery of the original series. No word yet on who’s returning, but it’s hard to imagine that this would move forward without at least Kyle MacLachlan coming back. In any case, it means we’ll get more exciting, innovative television like this:
Lynchian’s have been postulating this for some time now; with nothing else on the horizon coming to light for years, they have been as steadfast as Harry Potter fans desperate for any new material relating to their TV baby. As the twisted mystery will be 25 years old next year, fans all have been waiting patiently to see if Lynch would make good on Laura Palmer’s promise. If all goes as we think it will, the new series should start on the exact 25th anniversary date of the final episode (June 10, 1991) wherein Laura says that she will see Agent Cooper in 25 years.
Thanks to Vulture for the heads up.
