Transformers: Robots in Disguise “Worthy”

Transformers RiD - Worthy-0

Transformers: Robots in Disguise wrapped up it’s little half season this Saturday. I’m sort of sad to see it go for a couple of reasons. Not the least of which being Steve Blum.

One of the few things I was least surprised to see was for Optimus and Aerobolt successfully fuse once things got dire enough. Not hard to figure out, considering that you don’t make a 3D model of something that you have no plans to use. The fusion adds a bit of bulk to the already hefty Optimus, in addition to letting him fly. A good thing, because by that point, he had to deal with an airborne Starscream.

Starscream can’t accomplish his goal without all seven of the Minicons, so he’s pissed that his bounty hunters didn’t get them all. So when they stupidly bring Tricerashot with them to get the others back, the obvious happens. Notably, Sideswipe takes a bodyguard dive for the Minicons, but Starscream’s Dark Star Saber swipe knocks almost everyone out. He was, after all, indiscriminate.

Power floats. Also super happy about Beast Boy’s Birthday Bash. (Image: Cartoon Network)

Sideswipe is the first back up, and immediately goes to distract Starscream. I think one of the interesting things about this scene is the fact that he uses his alt mode to evade. It’s something I remember happening a bit in the movie, but to my recollection, doesn’t happen often on this show. Still, it’s the sort of thing you’d expect from robots that can turn into cars.

Regardless, Fixit figures out that as long as Starscream is in range of the equipment he used, they can use it to force one of the Minicons back out. Sidswipe is able to herd him in once, freeing Aerobolt to go to Optimus. But he’s not willing to fall for the same trick again, though he’s still confident he has the power to defeat a Prime.

Aerobolt is OP. Pls nerf. (Image: Cartoon Network)

That said, the only thing they need to do is drag him into range of the equipment to win. All it really takes is an Autobot dog pile to drag him down to earth. After all is done, Optimus has secured Starscream and his bounty hunters on his ship. Starscream is catatonic after having snatched defeat from the jaws of victory once again.

Optimus has apparently not been back to Cybertron since the end of last season. According to him, things have gotten really crappy there, and he’s got friends helping him out. Maybe this is a hint for something next season, maybe not.

The Weaponizers want nothing to do with Cybertron. Much less to hop a ride on the same ship carrying Starscream. The bots were, however, nice enough to modify their sub orbital ship for space travel. They set off with the promise of staying in touch, but doing their own thing. There’s no way they’re gone forever; though heading off into a plot hole isn’t impossible. It sure wasn’t for the Scavengers, which is why the Bee team decide to secure other Cybertronian war locations on Earth.

In retrospect, only like 3 of them got any characterization. (Image: Cartoon Network)

With that Transformers: Robots in Disguise wraps their mini-event. I’m hoping for more episodes like this in the future. It featured some of the stuff I’m really fond of in the franchise.

Final Thoughts:

– Sideswipe can survive a smoking hole in his chest better than Goku can.
– I seriously have no idea what happened to the Scavengers. They get swept aside just as they did earlier.
– I’m guessing Jazz is involved with the whole Optimus thing. He’d pretty much have to be.
