Transformers: Robots in Disguise “The Trouble With Fixit”

Hey, remember that army of Fixits a couple of weeks back on Transformers: Robots in Disguise? Angry little orange guys with “systems probes”? Terrifying on more than one level? Well we know why, now.

Fixit has always been a bit off. Getting things backwards, having to go through a range of words before getting to the one he really meant in a crazy verbal tick, and so on. Obviously damaged in the crash. Well it got worse. The bots start off looking for him, and Sideswipe finally finds him in a small clearing in the woods. He’s repeating the word “escape” over and over again, completely vacant. Sideswipe calls in to let them know he found Fixit when, thanks to a forest that’s naturally automated, a bear shows up.

Easy there, guy. I don't have any pic-a-nic baskets.

Since PETA would flip their shit if he just punched the bear or something, Sideswipe gets chased off a cliff by the damn thing. Jetstorm and Slipstream come to the rescue, and trick it into bashing its own head in against a log. While it lopes off to die of an untreated concussion, they go back to Sideswipe and the three of them take Fixit back to the junkyard.

Bumblebee and Fixit have a short discussion that harkens back to Deep Trouble. He convinces Fixit to get a checkup, with Jetstorm and Slipstream brought up as potential doctors due to their size. Fixit, however, consents on the condition that Denny does the diagnostic, as he trusts him. Denny is rightly terrified, because one wrong move might turn Fixit into a robot vegetable.

In his research, Denny finds that most Cybertronians have a few internal parts in common, including the cognitive array. He figures fixing that will get Fixit back to 100%. Meanwhile, Chop Shop’s right arm sneaks in to the junkyard to try and free the rest of himself. He has to keep hiding to avoid capture, and employs the old “Pretend you’re a statue/part of the architecture” routine.

Denny gets to repairing Fixit, and he’s suddenly successful. Fixit wakes up in the middle of the repairs, and goes outside. Bumblebee asks him how he feels and… Fixit has gone full on security guard mode.

Fixit goes after all of them, identifying them as Decepticon escapees. They manage to get away, and try to figure out what to do. Strongarm reminds them of the guards from Deep Trouble, which only she encountered, but I guess she told them about them off camera or something, whatever. It’s brought up that maybe Fixit wasn’t just a caretaker for the ship, but also a highly effective guard, as he’s clearly armed to the teeth for that purpose. They think that he forgot all of his security programming, as well as the fact that he had built in weaponry, in the crash. Turns out Denny did fix him, and that’s the real problem.

Drift thinks they need to destroy Fixit, as the risk that he would wreak havoc in Crown City by classifying everyone as an escapee is too great. Bumblebee vetoes this plan, though, beliving that Fixit is not beyond saving yet. And that’s when Fixit activates the security systems taken from the Alchemor that he and Denny unwittingly set up. In all the commotion this sets up, the rest of Chop Shop is set free, and he decides to steal some of their energon as a souvenir.

The bots decide to try and sneak upon Fixit. unfortunately for them, the defenses include laser tripwire triggered containment fields, which catch all of them but Denny, Russell, Sideswipe and Grimlock. They happen across Chop Shop and pursue him. Russell gets the bright idea to set Fixit on Chop Shop. Unfortunately, the guard programming doesn’t give a shit… until one of Chop Shop’s parts wanders on to the scene by accident. Fixit goes after it with an almost singular focus. Sideswipe fails to catch both 1/5th of Chop Shop and Fixit, because he didn’t eat his Awesome-o’s that day.

Since Fixit diverted all resources to catch Chop Shop, the rest of the bots are freed from the force fields. Bumblebee makes it to the entrance to stop Chop Shop, and Fixit shoots the Decepticon in the back. Fixit wants to finish the job over Bee’s protest. Bee tries to stop him.

It goes about as well as you'd imagine.

The rest of the bots get there, and Fixit curbstomps all of them. Just as he’s about to finish Chop Shop for failing to cease and desist, Denny sneaks up behind him and deactivates him. Later, he manages to break Fixit again and all’s back to the way it was. Bee asks Drift to see about getting the defenses set up under their control, and then picks up a busted mirror. He see Optimus in it, and Prime warns him that while he doesn’t know exactly what the evil heading towards Earth is, he knows he’ll need Bumblebee’s help more than ever when the time comes. Prime is gone as quickly he appeared, leaving Bumblebee with a sense of foreboding.

This place looks shittier than usual! What the hell happened?!

Final Thoughts:

  • At least he didn’t use the tentacle systems probe.
  • “Nuke box”. Ha!
  • Prime Directives: 1. Serve the public trust 2. Protect the innocent 3. Uphold the law 4. Classified
