The original Pacific Rim was a breath of fresh air in a genre of film that many thought was long since dead. The sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising has some pretty big shoes to fill in that regard, and if the first trailer is any indication, it’s a bigger and wilder ride this time around.
John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” We also see the return of a few familiar faces as the Kaiju make their return in a bif to exterminiate humanity.
The trailer shows already seems bigger and more intense than the entirety of the original film, with new Jaegers that feature all sorts of neat weaponry. Guillermo Del Toro isn’t directing this time around and the trailer lacks his signature feel, but hey, at the end of the day it’s still giant robots vs monsters.
