Toys R Us has continued its revival. And now, they’re planning to be back by the 2019 holiday season.
Current Tru Kids Brand CEO Richard Barry unveiled plans for the season to the Associated Press. While nothing is set in stone yet, they are exploring options. They are considering freestanding shops and those within other stores, but they believe e-commerce will be key.
Barry also stated that their focus will be on events within their new stores, noting that the brand is much beloved by customers. Notably, said stores will be around 10,000 square feet, as opposed to their previous 40,000 square feet. That said, He did also note that a lot of people were burned after Toys R Us went belly up.
As to whether they can do it, though? Well, Tru Kids estimates that as much as 40%-50% of Toys R Us’ previous market share is still unclaimed. And that takes into account the fact that stores like Walmart and Target expanded their toy sections after the liquidation.
