Tom Hiddleston has just signed on to play Hank Williams in Marc Abraham’s biopic I Saw the Light, which got that title because it is illegal to title a biography of a musican after anything except their name or one of their songs. The movie is based on the book Hank Williams: The Biography by Colin Escott, and what’s more, Abraham has secured the rights to Williams’ songs, which already makes I Saw the Light a hundred times better than Andre Benjamin’s Jackie Jormp-Jomp film about Jimi Hendrix.
Via Deadline:
Abraham wrote the script based on the Colin Escott biography of Williams and Aaron L. Gilbert will produce with Brett Ratner, G. Marq Rosell and Abraham. Ratner’s partner, James Packer, will be exec producer.
Hiddleston will also sing in the film, which I think is a nice touch. When told of Ratner’s involvement, every female cast member shuddered and said, “Ah shit.”
