Tom Hardy joins Kathryn Bigelow’s True American

Tom Hardy is one of the most exciting actors working today. He delivered go-for-broke performances in Lawless, The Dark Knight Rises, and Warrior, and even managed to make This Means War semi-watchable. Now he’s teaming up with one of the best directors working today (Kathryn Bigelow, of Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker) and one of the coolest producers (Megan Ellison, American Hustle, Her, True Grit). They’re going to make True American, which sounds pretty damn good.

Via The Wrap:

Per Amazon, [The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas] tells the story of Rais Uddin Bhuiyan, a Bangladesh Air Force officer who dreamed of immigrating to America and working in technology. But days after 9/11, an avowed “American terrorist” named Mark Stroman, seeking revenge, walked into the Dallas minimart where Bhuiyan had found temporary work and shot him, maiming and nearly killing him.

“The True American” traces the making of these two men and their fateful encounter. It follows them as they rebuild shattered lives — one striving on Death Row to become a better man, the other to heal and pull himself up from the lowest rung on the ladder of an unfamiliar country.

I’m gonna assume that Hardy will play Stroman, not Bhuiyan. Also, I call bullshit on making a movie called True American just to get New Girl fans excited.
