Tie to speculate away, I guess.
It’s not exactly a secret that Solo: A Star Wars Story has sort of underperformed at the box office. Doubly so when you consider just how much Disney paid to get Lucasfilm in the first place. But it seems, according to Collider, that Lucasfilm has put those other Star Wars Story films on hold for the time being.
That’s not to say they won’t happen, though. Just that they’re not going to be firing them off like they have been. So I wouldn’t expect that Obi-Wan or Boba Fett film anytime next year.
The reason these spinoff films are going on hold, though? They want to focus on Episode IX, apparently. Though, as someone who wasn’t particularly enamored with Episode VIII, I’d argue they’re fighting one hell of an uphill battle with the script. They have a lot of things they’re going to need to fix, and shitting explanations out in the novelizations of the movies isn’t going to cut it (that is just bad writing, sorry).
It’s just a shame. I do really want that Obi-Wan movie, after all. And there’s other stuff in the pipeline, too; Dave Filoni’s Star Wars: Resistance, and Jon Favreau’s live-action television project. But we’ll just have to wait and find out what the official line is on all of this.
