The Rock set to star in video game adaptation of the classic ‘Rampage’

It’s beginning to feel like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson can’t ever turn down a role that is tossed his way. After the success of his latest movie San Andreas, the film star is making his way back into video game adaptations with the upcoming “Rampage” as is being reported by Deadline. For those far too young to know, Rampage is a Midway arcade classic video game that saw many iterations across the cartridge based consoles of the ’80s and ’90s.

The game is based on three giant monsters (think Pacific Rim/Godzilla), a giant lizard, a wolf, and gorilla. The game sees the team smash-up an endless amount of cities to rack up points. I know this doesn’t sound like a lot to work with, but being so basic actually gives the production a lot of wiggle room. With the success of both Pacific Rim and the latest Godzilla film, it only makes sense to take advantage of this giant monster franchise.

The Rock is no stranger to video game adaptation, he played the lead role in the failed Doom film, but the actor has a proven track record with the giant disaster flick thanks to San Andreas. Production on Rampage is set to begin next summer.
