I was actually surprised to stumble upon the Polymega at this year’s E3. I hadn’t seen hide nor hair of it for quite a while. So you can imagine my recation upon turning into the Indiecade section and seeing it.
And I didn’t just see it; I saw it running. At the time, they were running games from the system’s internal memory. So I didn’t get to see the swappable hardware in action. But it was there, and it was live, and that goes a long way.
You’re not really spoiled for choice when it comes to early disc-based consoles. You’re either stuck with ageing hardware that my be on its last legs, or emulators, which may or may not work with everything. So having just one more retro clone console that can do these things justice is really cool.
