But for how long?
It’s hard to say that the PlayStation Classic lived up to everyone’s expectations. Mostly, because it really didn’t. Especially at a price of $99.99. That said, with the selection of games on the device running from proven classics to puzzling choices and everything in between, units didn’t move quite the way everyone involved hoped.
Shortly after launch, the mini system got its price slashed at most stores to $59.99, seemingly permanently. Though there was a short period where Walmart had it for $39.99. And now, that $40 price is back, but possibly only until stock is sold out. Both Walmart and Best Buy are selling the PlayStation Classic for that price, though, so you have some options, there.
As to why you’d want one, though? Sure, the library it came with was fairly disappointing. Not to mention the fact that it generally doesn’t run these games as well as it could. Which is why it’s so nice that the modding scene is super active. And, moreover, because of that scene’s work, it’s super easy to hack. Add games, change regions, force the damn thing to run things properly? They’ve got it mostly figured out.
There’s no telling how long the PlayStation Classic will be at this price, or how long the remaining units will last. So if you want one, now might be the best time to pull the trigger on that.
