The Best Announcements From The Game Awards 2021

The Game Awards

#FuckTheOscars

Thankfully, we avoided a 2020 situation with The Game Awards this year, and frankly Joseph Fares deserved the win after the bullshit Take-Two Interactive put his game through. Also, unironically, fuck the Oscars. Just fuck ’em.

Anyway, here’s the stuff I figure is actually worth noting from this year’s Game Awards. I didn’t even watch this shit as it happened due to my general hatred of awards shows, so if I miss anything… just let it be, okay?

Alan Wake 2 enters the world of Survival Horror

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2

It took over a decade, but hey. Warhammer 40k fans are probably pretty happy right now.

Slitterhead, a new game by Silent Hill’s Keiichiro Toyama

He’s free from the Konami gulag, and he’s here to scare the shit out of you with his new game, Slitterhead. Oh, and since it bears mentioning, Akira Yamaoka’s handling the music.

The Matrix Awakens, an interactive The Matrix experience featuring Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss from The Matrix in an Unreal Engine 5 The Matrix Tech Demo

Haha, we all know you haven’t aged, Keanu. You just grew a beard.

Elden Ring

G. R. R. Martin is still alive. Also Pot Friend, who no doubt 420 blazed it backstage.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Presumably, they’ll also, uh, kill the Batman. Also, dude, if you’re gonna make fun of a member of the Justice League, it should be Aquaman… while you’re standing in the middle of the Sahara. And even that might not help you, depending on the writer.

Wonder Woman

Monolith Productions (Middle-earth: Shadow of War) is making a Wonder Woman game.

Star Wars: Eclipse

Wow, that alien street was the most Star Wars thing you’ve likely seen in a while. Just two problems:

  • High Republic era
  • Quantic Dream
READ:  The new trailer for Death Stranding makes even less sense than the E3 one did

Pass.

Star Trek: Resurgence

Dramatic Labs, which is made up of Telltale vets, is making a Star Trek game in the Telltale style. I suppose this really hinges on who’s writing, and what edicts they have to follow from Paramount CBS. If any Kurtzman fuckery is on display, I will be sad.

The Expanse

Also, Telltale proper is making a game based on The Expanse.

Sonic Frontiers

Open world Sonic the Hedgehog. This’ll either be great, or a complete disaster if they ignore QA as is Sega’s wont when it comes to Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Movie

Following the surprisingly enjoyable movie from 2020, it’s sequel time. I was kinda unsure about Idris Elba as Knuckles, mostly due to the fact that he’s not typically known for voicework and he’s much older than the character he’s playing, but he seems to be nailing it. Also, it’s nice to see that they kept Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails.

Riot Games releases “Creator Safe” music.

If you were looking for DMCA-free music, and didn’t want to go with Kevin Macleod for the umpteenth time, Riot’s got you covered.

Tunic

It’s Zelda, but with foxes.

Halo TV show

Dune: Spice Wars
