Their Supercharger stations are kinda dismal right now.
Tesla’s set some pretty bold goals for themselves. Killing the gasoline-powered car, however, is one that’s going to be one hell of a battle against an entrenched opponent. And step one of that strategy is making their charging stations more appealing.
As things are now, there’s really not much to them. Which is a problem, since a half charge takes roughly half an hour. And so, their plan is to build out convenience stores at their Supercharger stations. Ideally, you’re charging your car at home, but if you need to travel a distance outside your car’s range, you need to charge it. And probably stop and pee, or grab some snacks. Tesla has realized that if they want to supplant the combustion engine, they can’t be bare bones.
And that’s why they plan on convenience stores. Possibly, they’ll pair up with an existing chain, since that limits the amount of company expansion they need otherwise. They’ll also, of course, need to expand their charging stations, since the infrastructure is every bit as important as anything else. It would probably be smart to snap up and retrofit failed stations if possible, since they would already have much of the accoutrements that their existing stations lack.
However they plan on doing it, they still have a long road ahead of them. And everybody seems to want Tesla out of their industry. But that constant enemy territory can make them a formidable contender.
