Tammy Gets First Official Trailer, Here’s Our Opinion

A person is holding a red name tag with TAMMY boldly displayed. Their face, partially visible, draws attention to expressive eyes and a warm smile framed by long blond hair. Against a light blue background, the text MELISSA MCCARTHY adds an intriguing layer to the scene.

I don’t know about this one guys. Tammy has a couple things going for it, namely the cast, which besides Melissa McCarthy includes Allison Janney, Susan Sarandon, Dan Aykroyd, and Mark Duplass. But the trailer is firmly against it:

See what I mean? Granted, this is just a teaser, but it’s not promising, in my opinion. For one, I think we should put a moratorium on the ironic use of “Gangsta’s Paradise;” for another, McCarthy needs to start showing some range. I know she’s got it in her, but in movies like Identity Thief, The Heat, and now Tammy, it seems like her character has been copy-pasted in from Bridesmaids. (Case in point: while searching for an image from Tammy to accompany this post, I almost used one from Identity Thief, that’s how similar her characters look.) Come on, Melissa, you’re an Oscar nominee, flex a little bit!
