Suikoden Spiritual Successor Eiyuden Chronicle Raises More Than $4.5 Million On Kickstarter

Eiyuden Chronicle

Another post-Konami success story.

Boring RPG nerds like myself have probably already heard about Eiyuen Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. But for those that haven’t, it’s a spiritual successor to Konami’s Suikoden series, and it sort of gets the band back together, so to speak. It reunites Yoshitaka Murayama, the creator of the series and writer for the first two games, and Junko Kawano, who worked as an illustrator, writer, and producer on the first and fourth games.

And Eiyuden Chronicle‘s Kickstarter has been a huge success. While they only asked for $500,000 for their goal initially, the project received three times that on the first day it was open. And now, at the closing bell, they’ve been funded $4.571 million to bring the game to life. And coincidentally, that eclipses their final stretch goal, which was set at $4.5 million: a separate game (with a few overlapping characters) made by Natsume-Atari, with the plan being to have this game come out first to tide you over until Eiyuden Chronicle is finished.

Overall, the game promises to be a treat for Suikoden fans. And hey, Rabbit & Bear Studios (the Eiyuden devs) even got a message of support from their fellow ex-Konami member, Koji Igarashi.

As far as I’m concerned, that’s a seal of quality, my friend.
