Chucklefish, the studio behind Starbound and Stardew Valley, have announced a new partnership with indie developer Cardboard Sword, working together on the latter’s new own-IP title: The Siege and the Sandfox.
Cardboard Sword – formed by experienced AAA developers – started full-time work on the ‘Stealthvania’ title (is that a thing?) after winning the first round of the UK Games Fund in January this year. The game, described by the company as “infusing stealth into the familiar Metroidvania experience to create a unique twist on the ever-popular genre”, sees you master dynamic acrobatic abilities to traverse the cavernous depths of an ancient underground prison.
The beautiful 16-bit pixel art style matches perfectly with Chucklefish’s existing library. Cardboard Sword’s CEO Olly Bennett said “we couldn’t hope to work with a more fitting and wonderful studio. The whole team at Chucklefish are lovely, and really have that ‘indie’ spirit. We know our game will fit in well with theirs and we’re excited to be working together.”
Molly, Marketing Manager at Chucklefish added, “The Siege and the Sandfox is beautiful stealthy Metroidvania goodness, and we’re super delighted to have the opportunity to work with the incredibly talented folks at Cardboard Sword to bring it into the world!”
