You know, I’m happy Steven Bomb 3 is ending. It’s kind of exhausting to have something every day like that in addition to all of the every day things in my life. And also, if there’s a fourth, it will probably end in a big, punch drunk speech from Steven about how we can all change.
The Gems have figured out a way to track Peridot down, and when she asks, they won’t tell her. Unfortunately, Pearl is a bit overzealous; not only does she step on the others lines, she ruins perfectly good openings in an attempt to catch Peridot. This ultimately leads to her escape.
Back at the temple, it’s shown that Pearl jury rigged the escape pod to the warp pad, allowing them to track Peridot’s every warp. As she’s expositing all of this (and coming to the realization that Garnet is still not happy with her), they get the signal that she’s warped somewhere that they think they can easily trap her.
They arrive to find a huge space ship that nature has reclaimed. Pearl thinks Peridot has cornered herself there, and is appropriately smug about the assertion. She then explains to Steven that ships like the one in front of them were used by the first Homeworld gems to reach Earth before the warp pads were built. Garnet points out that the history lesson is wasting precious time, and Pearl runs ahead.
Turns out Peridot wanted to lure them into the ship specifically to deal with them on her own terms. Fortunately for the Gems, the ship is really old and in disrepair, so some of the traps and mechanisms don’t exactly trigger when Peridot wants them to. The first being lasers, which Steven deals with. They manage to turtle their way to a corridor, at which point Steven collapses, as it’s the third time this episode that he’s conjured the shield. But Peridot’s not done yet, because SPIKES!
Pearl’s Leeroy Jenkins-esque behavior comes to a head when she rushes what turns out to be a hologram of Peridot. she has just enough time to realize how badly she’s botched things before the floor opens into a pit beneath them. Amethyst uses her whips to save herself and Steven, but Pearl and Garnet wind up at the bottom. They notice a screen showing Pearl and Garnet beneath a set of gears. They’re finally forced to talk to each other. And then the walls start closing in.
Using a whip, Steven and Amethyst are able to bind up the gears, temporarily stopping the trap. Garnet and Pearl finally settle the whole mess between them thanks to an admission of mutual respect. Then the whip snaps in half and the walls start again. There’s only one way out for them.
They defuse, and everyone heads for the control room to confront Peridot. Like every pencil necked nerd villain there ever was, she immediately blasts a hole in the roof to make her escape. As she monologues, Steven catches on to her leg, keeping her from really flying away. The gems all grab on to him forming a chain in an attempt to pull her down. She decides that her freedom is worth more, as she considers the planet doomed for some reason, and blows off her own foot to get away. They end with foot jokes.
Final Thoughts:
- Amethyst’s spin dash.
- At least none of the traps involved snakes.
- Peridot will get them and their little dog too.
