Steam’s New Chat System is Go

Fairly Discord-like.

So, if you ever used Steam’s built-in chat before, you might know that it was kinda clunky to use. Well, that is a thing of the past, now. Their new interface is up, and it’s one hell of a facelift.

It’s definitely inspired by Discord, too. Group chats now support a host of features that other platform has long had, like embedding GIFs and videos, as well as seamless transition between text and voice. Hell, the whole thing just seems  to run better. From their news post:

Today we’ve made the new Steam chat features, which have been in beta since June 12th, available to all Steam users. The all-new friends list and chat system makes it easier to chat and play games with your Steam friends.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the beta! We’ll continue to improve the new chat system based on your feedback and requests. We’ve already started working on making it easier to chat from anywhere with a new Steam chat mobile app for iPhone and Android devices.

You can take a look at the full rundown of features on the update page. But, needless to say, it’s a definite upgrade. Many of you feel bad for the old chat. That is because you are crazy. It has no feelings. And the new one is much better.
