Steam Mobile App Redesign Being Tested By Valve

Steam

Harder, better, faster, stronger.

If you’ve used the Steam app on your phone or tablet, you might realize that it’s gone a while without a lick of paint. Honestly, I haven’t touched it in a couple of years. But I might soon; Valve is reportedly testing an updated, redesigned version of the app.

As a matter of fact, the new version is in beta right now. And, assuming you’re willing to give some feedback on it, they’re happy for you to try it out (at least, assuming there are still spots open in the beta test). According to their post on the new version, they’ve given it a full overhaul from the ground up.

Today we’re starting a limited beta of the updated Steam Mobile App. We’ve rebuilt the app on a new framework and modernized the design. (2015 called and wanted their app back.) You’ll still be able to browse the store, get Steam Guard codes, and confirm trades, but now the app comes with QR code sign in, smarter notifications, an improved Library, and multi account support.

The general consensus is that, while the new features and updated design are great, it still needs a bit more time in the oven before it’s ready for prime time. Which is a reasonable assessment for something still in development.

There’s no set date for when the new version of the Steam app will go live to the public. You can, however, sign up for the beta here. It is, however, worth noting that on iOS, the beta is limited to 10,000 users due to Apple TestFlight restrictions. Start laughing in androiduser.
