Starlink Producer Explains the Star Fox Connection

All-range mode!

Look, I know I give Ubisoft a lot of shit. Often times, when you see me make an article about one of their games, there are like 5-10 really mean jokes at their expense that I cut out. Many of them involve their Wii-era shovelware. But I have to say, of all the toy-to-life games I’ve seen, Starlink: Battle for Atlas is definitely one of the best looking, in more ways than one. And they sweetened the pot, too; the big surprise for the game was that the Switch version would have some Star Fox content.

Because, if I’m being honest, I’ve always wanted a really high quality Arwing figure, and having seen it at E3, they deliver.

Regardless, Famitsu (yes, Famitsu!) had an interview with Starlink producer Matthew Rose, and it reveals how the entire thing came to be. Essentially, by chance, Reggie Fils-Aime was at a closed doors event at E3 2017, and noticed the possibilities the game ha for a Star Fox crossover. So he went and invited the devs to meet with Shigeru Miyamoto and the Star Fox team and discuss those possibilities at length.

Rose went on to say that they’re working hard on bringing the Arwing into the game faithfully. What’s more, they’re appllying that same elbow grease towards making sure that the Star Fox content in Starlink is accurate to Fox’s personality and abilities.they are fans of the series, after all.

The nice thing about the game, as Rose points out, is that the game doesn’t require you to purchase any extra packs to experience the entire game’s story. You can play it beginning to end with the starter kit. But come hell or high water, I’m buying that damn Arwing, no matter what. I want it that bad.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas launches on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on October 16th, this year.
